Member Spotlight: Our Lady of Mercy

The mission of Our Lady of Mercy Community Outreach is to encourage and support self-sufficiency and self-worth for people in need in our community through education, wellness, and outreach services.

The organization provides services to the residents of James, Johns, and Wadmalaw Islands and the eastside of Charleston County. They offer education programs (ESL, GED prep, budgeting, afterschool tutoring), wellness services (dental clinic, OB/GYN services, health education, yoga, senior programs), and outreach services (emergency food, clothing, and financial assistance, soup kitchen, workforce development).  Please see www.olmoutreach.org for a complete list of our programs and services.

"What excites me most about Our Lady of Mercy Community Outreach is that this organization is not just a helping hand, we are a change agent. We provide opportunities for people to change their own lives. We believe in community first and want to be a part of collaborative solutions so that EVERYONE in our community can thrive." said Our Lady of Mercy's Executive Director, Ericka Plater, MS, MBA, CAE (pictured).

Our Lady of Mercy will host its 25th Annual Golf Tournament on April 25, 2018, and will kick off a new youth workforce development program, Youth emPOWER, in June 2018.

Our Lady of Mercy Community Outreach serves on the Healthy Tri-County Executive Committee, Tri-County Community Health Plan Workgroup, and the Data Group. Mrs. Plater believes that "the HTC initiative is so exciting because of the depth and breadth of the collaboration. It truly does take a village and the impact on the community will be much larger as we work together for a healthy, vibrant community."
