MUSC Workshop - Advance Medical Interpreting

This is a two-day, 16-hour course for American Sign Language (ASL) and Spoken Language Interpreters. This workshop will break down the interpreting process from start to finish to effectively work in a healthcare settings, including:
- Standards of practice, code of ethics, universal codes, informed consent;
- Interpreter roles and preparing for a medical assignment,
- Breaking down medical terminology & medical questions, the art of “giving report”,
- Strategies when medical assignments involve legal, mental health, child services or palliative care issues
- The mechanics of medical interpreting, and
- An introduction to a variety of medical settings (e.g. doctor’s office vs hospital settings)
- ASL Interpreters interested in healthcare interpreting
- Certified Medical Interpreters looking for CEUs
- Any healthcare professional who wants to interpret in
healthcare
