WHAT IS SOMETHING YOU'D LIKE PEOPLE TO KNOW ABOUT YOU?
Despite the fact that I talk for a living, I consider myself to be a quiet, observant person. My co-anchor, Raphael James, and I laugh about the fact that we both call ourselves introverts. You'd never get that sense by watching our broadcasts!
WHAT ARE THREE TRAITS THAT DEFINE YOU?
Dependable, driven and caring.
WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE THING ABOUT HAVING A CAREER IN NEWS MEDIA?
I step into the Live 5 newsroom each afternoon with a world of possibility before me. I may be sent to a different county to file live reports from a breaking news scene, or I may be rushed out to the desk to anchor continuous coverage for a stretch of hours. Every day on the job can be so vastly different - and I love it.
WHICH HEALTHY TRI-COUNTY/FIND YOUR FIT FOCUS AREA DO YOU MOST IDENTIFY WITH? WHY?
Behavioral Health - Whether I am paging through police reports or interviewing survivors of suicide, I see firsthand the far-reaching ramifications of behavioral health. Journalists can be exposed to the worst sides of humanity, and we need to proactively care for our mental health, even if that means booking time with a counselor. As a whole, it's so imperative that we increase access to proven mental health programs AND reduce the stigma associated with seeking such services.
How do you already make conscious efforts to improve your own health or the health of your family/friends?
Regular exercise and balanced eating habits increase my confidence and discipline, which overflow in other aspects of my life. It sounds counterintuitive, but I seem to find more free time when I have a set gym routine! Personally, I enjoy weight-lifting and F45 - a circuit-based class where no work-out is ever the same. Variety is the spice of life...and the gym!
What motivates you to improve your own health and wellbeing?
I believe we are all beholden to the environment, and thankfully, those values of conservation closely mirror those of health. Whether it's buying a share of community-supported agriculture at a local farm or steering clear of processed foods wrapped in wasteful amounts of plastic, my desire to reduce my envinronmental impact usually means I eat in a more healthy manner.
Being so engaged in the Tri-County region through news and media, do you believe that we have any clear opportunities for improving health in our area?
My company recently started an incentive to drink more water. Employees who down 8+ glasses of water each day are entered into a contest to win cash prizes at the end of the month. It's awesome to work for an employer who rewards healthy behavior. I'd encourage other businesses to inspire its workforce with incentivized campaigns.
